The device has a retaining means (1) and a guide (3) for the longitudinal members (4). The retaining means (1) essentially comprises two rows of in each case two connecting tubes (101) which are fastened on legs (104). At least the upper two tubes are connected at each of their ends by means of a transverse piece (102), this producing in each case a U-shaped opening (103) for receiving a longitudinal-member support (2). The support placed into said opening is then secured by a chain (106). The upper ends of the two supports (2) are connected to one another by the longitudinal-member guide (3), which can be placed on said ends. This guide is designed as an upwardly open channel which can receive and guide the longitudinal members (4) or the ends of two abutting longitudinal members. The retaining means (1) makes it considerably easier to erect the longitudinal-member supports (2) and the guide (3) makes it considerably easier to mount the longitudinal member or members (4), while, at the same time, cutting down on manpower. <IMAGE>
