A pivoting drive for a lid, which is attached to a container in an articulated manner and has an uneven seal thickness or an unevenly mounted insert thickness, is characterised in that the linear movement which is limited in length and is introduced at one point is converted by a hydraulic linkage at a remote point into a rotary movement and is returned by the energy stored by this movement in a spring, and this movement is prestressed with a progressive spring characteristic by resilient hingeing of the container in at least two hinge points, and the drive can be effected by an automatically releasable catch gearing at the point of introduction in two separate release stages. In particular, the hydraulic linkage is closed off towards the outside by roll-type membranes.
