The spreading anchor for fixing in drilled holes consists of an anchor bolt (1) and an expanding sleeve (2). In the end region on the insertion direction side, the anchor bolt (1) has an expanding zone (5) which is bounded against the insertion direction by an annular shoulder (6). The expanding zone (5) is composed of a conical pre-expansion region (7) connected to the annular shoulder (6) and of a subsequent-expansion region (8) which expands in the opposite direction. The expanding sleeve (2) surrounds the expanding zone (5), is at a distance (A) from the annular shoulder (6) at one end and overhangs the anchor bolt (1) at the other end in the insertion direction by an amount (B) which is greater than the distance (A). <IMAGE>
