PURPOSE:To perform high quality recording at a high speed, by detecting the emission speed of ink droplets from an ink jet head at every one line and controlling a printing speed at every one line corresponding to said emission speed. CONSTITUTION:The emission of ink droplets emitted at every one line from an ink jet head 201 is detected by an emission speed detecting means 202 and a printing speed is controlled corresponding to said emission speed at every one line by a printing speed control means 203. Concretely, for example, the time interval of the step feed of the ink jet head 201 and a time interval for supplying a trigger signal for applying driving voltage to said head 201 are controlled. By this method, a printing speed, which was suppressed to a low speed uniformly by the lowest emission speed in the entire picture or the lowest emission speed determined from the aspect of planning in a convertional apparatus is increased to a large extent and high quality recording can be performed.
