An appliance (1) for treating the ground surface layer of gardens and parks is equipped with a self-propelled drive unit (2) and with a processing device which can be coupled to this. Said processing device is fastened to the undercarriage or supporting structure (5) of the appliance (1) and is designed as a rotor (4) having radially projecting implements (6). The rotor (4) extends transversely relative to the direction of travel, and the implements (6) are driven to take effect in the opposite direction to the latter. By adjusting the rotor (4) into an oblique position, solid bodies in the mass of earth can be cleared to the side and deposited in a swathe. <IMAGE>
