In a cutting-out press as set forth in Specification 981,185, the manually-operable means for actuating the valve to initiate downward movement of the beam is in the form of a trip device which is rotatable to a selected one of a plurality of alternative positions to select the distance through which the beam moves downwardly before it is arrested. The valve, which is contained in housing 36 located in press column 2, is actuatable by a freely-mounted rod 71 connected at one end to a handle 79 of the trip device and arranged at its other end to engage one arm of a pivotally-mounted lever 51, the other arm of which engages the stem of a spring-influenced valve slide 38, Fig. 2 (not shown), the rod 71 being movable axially to cause the valve to initiate downward movement of the beam and being rotatable about its axis to the selected one of its alternative positions. The rod 71 has fixed thereto an eccentric 74 arranged to engage, on downward movement of the beam, a spring-influenced flange 60 which, on further movement of the beam, disengages the end of the rod 71 from the lever 5L to cause the valve to terminate the cutting operation. and bring about upward movement of the beam. The flange 60 is provided on a sleeve 59 slidably mounted on a control rod 15, the lower end of which is threaded on a screw 18 so that by rotation of a hand wheel 31 secured to the upper end of the rod 15, the rest position of the beam can be adjusted. The heightwise position of the sleeve 59 is adjustable by a screw 63. The handle 79 is formed as a two-armed lever pivoted at 80 between arms 78 extending from a sleeve 75 fixed to the beam. |
