<p>2,2-Dimethyl 5-(2,5-xylyloxy) valeric acid is made by nucleophilic substitn. reaction of isobutyric acid with 3-(2,5-dimethyl phenoxy) propyl mesylate in molar ratio 1:0.94 in presence of sodium hydride, at 40-60 deg. C and in an inert organic solvent e.g. DMF, hexamethyl phosphoramide or pref. DMSO. The prod. is isolated by addn. of water, acidification with 6N HCl and extraction with ether, which is dist. off and the residue re-crystallised from n-hexane.</p> |
