The shortwall machine according to the invention has, preferably in its base frame, a T-conveyor known per se as well as a machine guide, consisting of parallel guide rails, for a winning machine, on the machine body of which cutting arms provided with cutting heads are mounted in a vertically pivotable manner. A rack drive serves as travelling drive. The rack wheel is arranged in an approximately horizontal position on the underside of the machine body and meshes with a rack rod which is arranged laterally on a rear support of the base frame. The machine guide located here is preferably designed as a double guide. Furthermore, the invention is aimed at an expedient development of a winning machine.
