The coupling element, for joining two optical fibres or optical cables, comprises a guide sleeve (C) into which the latter are inserted from opposite ends, with resilient tongues projecting inwards and deformable to clamp the inserted fibres (F', F") or cables. The tongues (L2) project inwards from one face of the guide sleeve (C), so as to define an opening which allows the junction zone between the inserted fibres (F', F") or cables to be visually inspected and/or allows introduction of substances for varying the refractive index at the junction. Pref. the guide sleeve (C) is formed as a hollow prism open at either end, the tongues (L2) projecting inwards from the prism base.
|
