PURPOSE:To shorten a target searching time and to enhance target tracking capacity, by subjecting a target detecting apparatus mounted to a pedestal having a degree of freedom of 1 or 2 to unidimensional or two-dimensional scanning. CONSTITUTION:The target detecting apparatus 1 mounted to a pedestal 2 having a degree of freedom of 1 or 2 moves up and down by unidimensional scanning when a target A is searched and is moved to right and left by the pedestal 2. The searching of the target is performed within a short time by this unidimensional scanning. Subsequently, the apparatus 1 performs two-dimensional scanning to the searched target A and the pedestal 2 is driven corresponding to the detection of a position where the target A is present and the tracking capacity in the automatic tracking of the target is enhanced. |
