Zur Herstellung von 2- und 4-tert.-Butylcyclohexanolen mit hohen Anteilen an cis-Isomeren hydriert man die entsprechenden tert.-Butylphenole in Gegenwart von Pd- und Ru-Katalysatoren in zwei Stufen bei Wasserstoffdrücken über 200 bar und Temperaturen von 70 bis 280 °C. In der ersten Stufe setzt man einen Pd-Kontakt ein und in der zweiten Stufe einen Ru-Kontakt.
