PURPOSE:To dispense with a vehicle speed sensor in a vehicle steering device which alters the ratio of steered angle of rear wheels to front wheels depending on the vehicle speed, by utilizing the position of the gearshift of the vehicle to detect its speed. CONSTITUTION:A slider 27 for altering the steered angle of rear wheels depending on that of front wheels is coupled to a motor 29, which is controlled by a signal from a computer 31 mounted on a vehicle. The computer 31 receives a signal proportional to the speed of the vehicle, and a signal from a position sensor 32 for detecting the position of the slider 27, so that an appropriate control signal corresponding to the vehicle speed is applied to the motor 29. The vehicle speed is determined by finding out the positions of a gearshift 33 through position sensors 34-40, and then applied to the computer 31. Therefore, an exclusive sensor for detecting the vehicle speed is not needed, so that the cost is curtailed. |
