LIQUID CRYSTAL SHUTTER DEVICE

PURPOSE:To improve a shutter effect by providing a polarizing plate which matches the polarizing direction of the light reflected from a reflecting plate and adsorption axis on the side of a liquid crystal element where light is made incident. CONSTITUTION:The light of a light source 1 is reflected by the reflecting plate 2 and the liquid crystal display element 3 is driven to allow the transmission of the light therethrough or to shield the same, by which the prescribed data is exposed and imprinted onto a film 4. The light source having the uniform electric field distribution receives polarization by the plate 2. The light transmitted through the polarizing plate 3a is weakened and the incident light to the element 3 decreases when the polarization direction 2p of said light and the absorption axis 3p of the polarizing plate 3a provided on the incident side of the element 3 are matched. The shutter effect is thereby improved and the need for providing a metallic mask is eliminated. The simplification of a process for production and the reduction of cost are thus made possible.
