1333403 Polymerizing vinyl chloride MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 7 Oct 1970 [9 Oct 1969] 47719/70 Heading C3P Vinyl chloride is polymerized in a bed of particulate P.V.C. fluidized by a gas containing or consisting of vinyl chloride while feeding liquid vinyl chloride to the polymerization zone and operating at a pressure below the vapour pressure of vinyl chloride at the polymerization temperature. The initiator which is preferably introduced with the particulate P.V.C. may be lauroyl peroxide, diisopropyl peroxydicarbonate di-4-t-butyl-cyclohexyl peroxydicarbonate or octanoyl peroxide. A chain transfer agent, e.g. trichloroethylene or 1,2-dichloroethylene, may be introduced with the polymer or the monomer. Liquid monomer is sprayed into the fluidized bed. |
