PURPOSE:To enable easy production of porous glass having such composition which prohibits utilization of a phase-separation by gelling an aq. alkali silicate soln, and removing an alkali salt by washing from the gel upon completion of gelation then calcining the gel. CONSTITUTION:Gelation of an aq. alkali silicate soln. is generated and the gel is washed upon completion of gelation to remove the alkali salt and thereafter the gel is heated, by which porous glass is obtd. The porous glass formed when the gelation reaction of the aq. alkali silicate soln. is induced by an acid is the quartz glass base constituted of SiO2. The gelation reaction of the aq. alkali silicate soln. is also generated by metallic ion of a transition metal element, etc. and the silicate glass contg. said metal element is produced by heating the formed gel at a low temp. The porous silicate glass contg. an alkaline earth element, rare earth element, the 4th period transition metal and 5th period transition metal element is manufactured by utilizing the above-mentioned reaction. |
