In a height-adjustable patient bed, a patient-supporting surface is connected to a fixed frame element 1 by a lever system configured as a double parallelism and comprising a first and a second set 3, 4 of parallelogram- connected levers. Two levers 5, 6 in the first set 3 are connected at their one end to a respective stationary swivel joint 7, 8 in the frame element 1 and at their opposite end to a first 10 and a second swivel joint 11 in a connecting element 9. Two levers 12, 13 in the second set 4 are connected at their one end to swivel joints 14, 15 in a bracket 2 fastened to the supporting surface and at their opposite end to respectively the second swivel joint 11 and a third swivel joint 16 in the connecting element 9. That lever 5 in the first set 3 which is connected to the first swivel joint 10 in the connecting element 9 and that lever 12 in the second set 4 which is connected to the second swivel joint 11 are configured with mutually facing arc-shaped transmission members 17, 18 for transmitting an externally applied rotation of the first set 3 to an equal-sized, oppositely directed rotation of the second set 4. <IMAGE>
