PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of a character generator by a method in which printing patterns for contracted letters or characters are compiled and formed from usual letter patterns housed in the character generator. CONSTITUTION:Bit rows of matrixed bit array of usual letter pattern from a character generator 5 are written in the first register 17 in order. Odd-number bits and even-number bits are judged by a judgement means 18 and housed in the second register 19, and the first and second printing patterns for contracted letters are compiled and housed in RAM. A printing head drive circuit 8 is operated by the first controller 20, and letters or characters corresponding to the first printing pattern are printed. A printing paper is sent out by 1/2 of the interval of printing pins by the second controller 21. Afterwards, the letters of the second printing pattern are printed on the previously printed letters in a lapping manner by the first controller 20, and contracted letters are printed. The needs for character generator of large capacity can thus be eliminated. |
