A method for three-dimensional stereo recording of sound signals is described in which the electric signals supplied by the microphones are electronically processed and forwarded to an information medium. To improve the acoustic spatial resolution or spatial sound source location without modifying the conventional broadcast transmitting and receiving installations, it is proposed according to the invention that, in addition to the pair of microphones used in conventional stereo recording with a frontal reference direction, a separate stereo recording is made in at least one further reference direction which lies parallel with the longitudinal plane, that the recording system and the electronic processing of the microphone signals ensure that the electric signals of the respective reference direction are provided with a frequency pattern corresponding to that direction and that the propagation time differences of spectrally different sound signals allocated to the respective reference direction are accurately simulated by the geometry of the microphone arrangement or by electronic simulation and that the modulated electric signals are electronically mixed while retaining the left/right separation and are forwarded directly to the information medium.
