Opening fibres - at high speed prior to feeding to a carding machine

The fibres pass from a hopper, between a pair of feed rolls and onto an endless needled belt passing transversely underneath the nip between the feed rolls the fibres are removed from the end of the belt by a needled doffing roller and fall freely into a dosing device from which they are transported to the condenser of a carding machine. The dosing device may include pivoting flaps which pivot open when a predetermined weight of fibres has collected in the dosing device. Better opening is achieved at higher speeds.
