By means of a ventilator (4), fresh air (L1) is blown into the material (7) to be dried, in continuous or interval mode, through a ventilation duct (2) which is arranged on the floor (1), the supplied fresh air (L1) entering through a grille (3) into a haymow (7), flowing through the latter and normally, after absorbing the moisture, the air (L2) emerging upward out of the haymow (7). Changing over between continuous mode and interval mode takes place on the basis of a measurement of the moisture which is carried out automatically on a timed basis. In order to improve the measuring accuracy both of the air inlet and of the air outlet moisture and/or temperature, the measurement is performed in a measurement probe arrangement (10) which consists of a temperature sensor (T) and/or moisture sensor (F) which arrangement is arranged between an intake port (41) of the ventilator (4) and a control flap (9), outside the storage space (6) in a measurement pipeline (84). In accordance with the flap control, the values both for the fresh air (L1M) and for the measurement air (L2M) which flows through the material (7) to be dried and is fed through the end (84) of the measurement pipeline (84) which protrudes into the storage space (6) is measured. <IMAGE>
