<p>PURPOSE:To raise the intake and exhaust efficiency of an engine, by controlling the valve timing or the valve lift of an intake valve or an exhaust valve by designing a cam such that its configuration is varied in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION:A cam 1 is designed such that its configuration is varied in the axial direction of a cam shaft 2, and the cam shaft 2 is shifted in the axial direction or otherwise a cam follower is shifted in the direction of the cam shaft 2 according to the operational conditions of an engine. By employing such an arrangement, it is enabled to obtain optimum valve timing and lift, so that the efficiency of the engine is raised and the engine output is increased.</p> |
