Provided for adjustably retaining an optical surface, in particular a laser mirror, is a one-piece retaining device consisting of an annular basic member and an annular mirror carrier which are connected to one another by an elastic adaptor. Adjusting screws inserted in a circumferential flange of the mirror carrier project into threaded holes in the basic member and permit the mirror carrier to tilt about two mutually perpendicular axes extending in the plane of the adaptor.
