<p>SPEECH INTELLIGIBILITY ENHANCEMENT A technique for enhancing the intelligibility of speech, particularly useful in enhancing the consonant sounds therein. The technique intensifies the consonant sounds and, in effect, equalizes their intensity to that of the vowel sounds in a speech waveform. In a preferred embodiment thereof, a shorttime estimate of the relative spectral shape of an input speech signal is determined. Control means are provided in response to such relative spectral shape estimate for dynamically controlling a modification of the spectral shape of the actual speech signal so as to produce a modified output speech signal.</p> |
