Substituted succinic anhydride or succinate stabilizers of the formula I or II <IMAGE> (I) <IMAGE> (II) where R1 and R2 are independently alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl or aralkyl, R3 is hydrogen or methyl, R4 is hydrogen, lower alkyl or phenyl, R5 is hydrogen, alkyl, alkylthio, arylthio or the structure <IMAGE> and R6 and R7 are independently hydrogen, alkyl; aryl or substituted aryl are useful as stabilizers for polymeric substrates, particularly polyolefins and rubber.
