A process for producing a copper-zinc-chromium catalyst composition having improved catalytic activity and heat resistance, which comprises calcining a mixture of a copper-containing precipitate and a zinc-containing precipitate each obtained by precipitation from an aqueous solution of a water-soluble copper salt and an aqueous solution of a water-soluble zinc salt, together with a chromium source compound selected from the group consisting of chromic anhydride, dichromic acid and their salts, said chromium source compound being treated, before contact with said mixture, with a reducing organic compound selected from the group consisting of alcohols, sugars, organic hydroxy acids, aldehydes, ketones and amines. |
