PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer paper capable of performing gradation recording by utilizing only gassification of a sublimable dye, by a method wherein a synthetic resin solution containing the sublimable dye is applied to a substrate and, after drying, the formed layer is heated to disperse said dye throughout the resin layer while said dye on the surface of the resin layer is removed by an org. solvent. CONSTITUTION:A solution mixture consisting of a sublimable dye, a synthetic resin (e.g., an alkyd resin) and a first org. solvent (e.g., ethyl acetate dissolving the synthetic resin) is applied to a sheet like substrate 1 and, after drying, heating is applied to disperse the aforementioned sublimable dye throughout the synthetic resin layer 2 to dye the same. Subsequently, the dye on the surface of the dyed synthetic resin layer 2 is dissolved and removed by a second org. solvent for selectively dissolving said dye (e.g., ethanol) to obtain objective thermal transfer paper wherein the synthetic resin layer 2 dyed with the sublimable dye is provided on the sheet like substrate 1. |
