Each phase of the generator busbar system ends in a cylindrical section. Flexible conductor leaves or braids join the generator bus-bar to a similar cylinder at the end of a circuit breaker or isolator. On their inside the flexibles are supported on an insulation piece. The core of a ring type current transformer fits over the flexible joint. It is located on the enclosing bus duct. Rails may be provided for sliding the core axially to one side whilst the flexible joint is made or opened. An earthing switch has its operating mechanism in the same plane as the joint. The earthing switch contact arm inside the bus duct lies between the back of the current transformer core and the inside of the duct when in the open position.
