PURPOSE:To connect a computer of any type if the computer is provided with a serial interface, by receiving a command from the external through a serial I/O port and driving a network controller to call a designated caller or called subscriber of the telephone. CONSTITUTION:A CPU12 is connected to an external computer 28 through a serial I/O port 14; and when receiving a command SENSE, the CPU12 detects the state of a network controller (NCU) 32 through a parallel I/O port 20 and sends it to the external computer 28. If transmission is possible, the external computer 28 issues a command DIAL, and the CPU12 operates the NCU32 through the parallel I/O port 20 to communicate a telephone number. The NCU 32 starts the calling operation to the designated subscriber to be called, through a telephone set 34. After connection, the CPU12 sends an answering command, and the external computer 28 transmits data through a line terminating equipment 24. |
