PURPOSE:To efficiently remove silicic acid in water, by a method wherein a solution containing silicic acid and a ferrous ion, to which calcium carbonate is added, is aerated to oxidize and neutralize a ferrous salt therein while silicic acid is adsorbed into the formed precipitate. CONSTITUTION:Calcium carbonate is added to a solution containing silicic acid and a ferrous ion such as hot water generated with the geothermal development or ore waste water. Subsequently, aeration treatment is applied to the resulting solution and a ferrous salt therein is oxidized to a ferric salt while, at the same time, neutralization is performed to form an iron precipitate by calcium carbonate. At this time, silicic acid is precipitated while efficiently adsorbed into the aforementioned iron precipitate. In this case, because the oxidation of the ferrous salt to the ferric salt is gradually performed while the formation of the ferric salt and the neutralization and precipitation thereof due to preliminarily added calcium carbonate are simultaneously performed, the adsorption effect of silicic acid to the precipitate is enhanced.
