<p>Fuel consumption is reduced in internal combustion engines by lubricating them with a lubricant containing certain alkyl or alkenyl esters of polycarboxylic acids, especially substituted succinic acids in which the substituent contains from about 8 to about 30 carbon atoms. The preferred esters are acidic alkenyl (usually allyl) esters) such esters, and additive concentrates and lubricants containing them, are novel compositions.</p> |
