PURPOSE:To produce inexpensively a permanent magnet material having an excellent magnetic characteristic by molding ultrafine alloy powder consisting of rare earth elements, additive elements such as B, Co, Ti, etc. and Fe, etc. in a specific composition and sintering the molding in a reducing or non-oxidative atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Alloy powder which has the compsn. consisting, by atomic ratio, of 8-30% R (>=1 kind among rare earth elements including Y), 2-28% B, <=50% Co, prescribed % of >=1 kind among additive elements M (Ti, Bi, Nb, Cr, W, Al, Ge, Zr, Ni, V, Ta, Mo, Mn, Sb, Sn and Hf) with the total of M below the max. value among the respective elements of the M incorporated therein and the balance Fe and impurities unavoidable in production and has 0.3-80mum average grain size is molded nd the molding is sintered in a reducing or non- oxidative atmosphere at 900-1200 deg.C. An FeCoBRM permanent magnet material which has a good magnetic characteristic and a magnetization curve of a high squareness, and has magnetic anisotropy to permit molding to an optional shape is thus produced by using R as a light rare earth element.
