The plant, which can be assembled according to the modular system, serves for the better separation and utilisation of the different components of solid materials arising as waste. The main part is a separator, preceded in the flow of material by a conveyor device constructed for example as a ram conveyor and if necessary a following press with a revolving storage tank for the relaxation of the pressed fine material. Rotatably mounted driven drums are provided in an essentially perpendicular shaft in a frame pivotable about a horizontal axis in the direction of fall of the transferred material, and their speed of rotation is opposed to the falling acceleration of the transferred material. Vanes or sets of teeth, which are displaceable within limits under the action of gravity, or rods, are distributed over the periphery and the length of the drum. Moreover the falling material lies in the region of air streams directed parallel to the drum surfaces, for which are provided outlet openings with strippers for entrained light material, in the channel walls opposite to the inlet openings, and wall projections thereunder which are troughlike, but open downwards. Heat utilisation devices can be added on or supplied.
