The invention relates to a forepoling device which is preferably used for self-advancing powered support assemblies, arranged in the end area of the longwall face, in order to secure the working area located here. The forepoling device has a sliding cap which is mounted on the roof cap and carries a telescopic cap on its end on the working-face side, which telescopic cap is provided with at least one hydraulic advance prop, by means of which the extended sliding cap can be supported against the floor on the working-face side. The telescopic cap can be swung up by means of swivel cylinders towards the sliding cap roughly into the horizontal position. All thrust-piston mechanisms expediently lie protected and in a space-saving manner in the interior of the sliding cap, which is provided with appropriate accommodation spaces for the advance prop and the swivel cylinders.
