The container closure for bottles or the like consists of an inner actuating member (3) and an outer closure body (2) for receiving the inner actuating member (3) which has a bulbous head portion (4), a substantially tubular sealing portion (5) which can be spread apart and shrunk depending on the movement of the inner actuating member (3), and a spreader element (6) which is secured between the ends of the tubular sealing portion (5) inside the sealing portion, the spreader element (6) being constructed in such a way that it can carry out a movement as a reaction to the pressing-down of the inner actuating member (3), is prestressed counter to the pressing-down, and assumes a particular position of equilibrium prior to the pressing-down of the inner actuating member (3).
