PURPOSE:To improve corrosion resistance of a magnetic medium at high temp. and high humidity, and the drivability, particularly, the durability of the still state by forming a thin film of a ferromagnetic metal having the surface partly or wholly converted to a metallic hydroxide on a nonmagnetic substrate, then, covering the surface of the thin film with a layer of alkyl titanate. CONSTITUTION:A covering layer 3 is prepd. by coating the surface of a thin film 2 of a ferromagnetic metal having its surface converted partly or completely to its hydroxide formed on a nonmagnetic substrate 1 with 5-100mg/m<2> alkyl titanate expressed by the formula (wherein R is H, alkyl, or acyl; n is 1-10). Said alkyl titanate combines firmly with OH groups on the surface of the thin film 2. Almost no rust generation is caused even if it is allowed to stand for a long time in an atmosphere at high temp. and high humidity, and a magnetic recording medium having superior drivability, particularly, remarkably improved durability for maintaining still state is obtd. |
