PURPOSE:To deposit the titled compound useful as a synthetic detergent, etc. and separate the titled compound from the unreacted raw materials, by reacting a saturated hydrocarbon with SO2 and O2 in a system containing substantially no water, and reacting the resultant alkanesulfonic acid with an organic amine to neutralize the reaction product. CONSTITUTION:A saturated hydrocarbon is reacted with SO2 and O2 in a system contaning substantially no water to give a reaction product containing an alkanesulfonic acid. An organic amine is then added to neutralize the reaction product and deposit the organic amine salt of the alkanesulfonic acid. The unreacted saturated hydrocarbon is then recovered by the solid liquid separation to give the aimed substance. Methylamine, pyridine, etc. may be cited as the amine, and the equivalent amount thereof to be used is preferably<=3 gram equivalents based on one gram equivalent alkanesulfonic acid. EFFECT:The neutralization reaction is rapidly advanced, and the aimed compound containing little impurities is obtained in high yield in simple steps.
