The measuring device includes two electrically insulated electrodes (106a,b). They are practically planar, and are separated by a gap of at least 0.5 cm. Each is made of a sheet of aluminium, protected by a layer of polymer material. The two electrodes together form the flat base of a carriage which may be moved over the surface to be measured. - The electrodes are connected into a capacitance measuring circuit which allows the capacitance between them to be determined. The capacitance is pref. in the range 50-150 pF/square metre. The electrodes may form the belts of a 'track-laying' carriage which is able to move over the measured surface.(5/8)
