The invention relates to a device for metal arc welding, having a constant voltage source and a feed apparatus for the welding wire, whose feed rate can be controlled as a function of the current. The voltage controller and the control device which is dependent on the welding current can be calibrated at two operating points on a current/voltage characteristic.
