PURPOSE:To maintain a thermal head at a fixed temperature and prevent the so- called sticking phenomenon from occurring, by a method wherein a heater provided in surface contact with the face side or back side of a thermal head is turned ON and OFF as required. CONSTITUTION:The heater 5 for heating the thermal head 1 is sheet-like in shape, is provided with a heating pattern 6, and is adhered to a fitting part 3 located on the back side of the thermal head 1. When the thermal head 1 is heated to a preset temperature by the heater 5, the condition is detected by a temperature-detecting means, e.g., a thermistor, and impressing of a voltage on the heater 5 is restricted by OFF control of the thermistor. When the surface temperature of the head 1 is lowered below a preset temperature, a voltage is impressed on the heater 5 by ON control of the thermistor. Accordingly, the surface temperature of the head 1 is maintained to be constant irrespectively of the ambient temperature. The means for heating the head 1 may be located on the face side of the head. |
