摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the titled phenolic resin quickly in high yields, by controlling the relative amounts of an acidic catalyst, reactants and a solvent used, a reaction temperature, etc., in condensing a phenol with aldehyde in a solvent in the presence of an acidic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A mixture is formed by mixing (A) a phenol component containing 70mol% or above bifunctional phenol (e.g., chlorophenol) with (B) an aldehyde (e.g., formaldehyde) in an amount corresponding to a molar ratio to component A of 1.3-2, (C) an acidic catalyst (e.g., sulfuric acid) in an amount of 3-15mol% based on component A, and (D) 80-500pts.wt., per 100pts.wt. component A, solvent selected from the group consisting of halohydrocarbons, ethers, nitrohydrocarbons, and aromatic hydrocarbons. This mixture is condensed at a reaction temperature of 150-250 deg.C to obtain a linear novolak type substituted phenolic resin having a number-average MW >=1,500.
