In order to reduce the quantities of thermal energy and water necessary for the treatment of a fabric web, a continuous low-temperature plasma treatment is provided. An endless continuous treatment is possible if the textile material is introduced by way of pressure-tight locks into the evacuated interior of a reaction chamber and guided out of the reaction chamber by way of further pressure-tight locks, and if low-temperature plasma formed between pairs of electrode plates is guided through within the reaction chamber.
