The present torch is to be designed in such a way that, among other things, it is of minimum size and is easy to maintain and is to ensure optimum welding performance and quality even where access to machine components is extremely restricted. To this end, all essential torch components are to be integrated in a torch head which is of flat construction, is at right angles to the associated basic body and at the same time is an integral part of this basic body. The basic body is to be linked to a top cover plate which runs parallel to it and which, together with cathode (ignition) current line integrated therein, merges positively into the top parallel-sided torch head surface. Furthermore, tubes for the plasma and inert-gas feed into the torch head, which tubes are separate from one another and run in parallel next to one another, as well as a further outer tube are to be provided in the basic body. The outer tube is embedded in the torch head in a semicircular and symmetrical manner for conducting a liquid coolant to and away from the torch head.
