In apparatuses for adjusting the distance of the stripping plate from the circumference of the work rolls mounted in the chocks of a roll stand, it should be possible to adjust the distance of the stripping plate from the circumferential surface of the work rolls when changing the work rolls or to adjust the distance progressively to the decreasing diameter of the work rolls during rolling without significant technical outlay. For this purpose it is proposed that retention stops 10 lying in the path of motion of abutment stops 8 secured on the supporting slide 6 be arranged on the chocks 11, and the stop faces 8a and 10a of both stops 8 and 10, respectively, be inclined towards the rolls 3, 4 and extend at an acute angle to the vertical (see Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
