PURPOSE:To enable to print in both directions and to enhance printing speed, by a method wherein a predetermined angle is provided between the moving direction of a printing head and that of a transfer ink ribbon, and the ink ribbon is taken up when changing over the moving direction of the head. CONSTITUTION:A lower part 7A of a carrier 7 is engaged with a head guide shaft 14, and the head is fitted to the lower part 7A. An upper part 7B of the carrier 7 is engaged with a ribbon guide shaft 15, and an ink ribbon cassette 8 is provided thereon. The shaft 15 is inclined by a predetermined angle against the shaft 14, namely, against the moving direction of the head, the carrier 7 is moved by taking up a wire 19 by a pulley 18, and the ink ribbon is taken up simultaneously with turning ON an electromagnetic clutch 17. When changing over the moving direction of the printing head, the clutch 17 is turned OFF, and the ink ribbon is taken up by a predetermined amount so that printed images are not contaminated by a ribbon part once used for printing. Accordingly, it is enabled to print in both directions and to enhance printing speed. |
