PURPOSE:In producing the titled compound in a gaseous phase from methanol and/or dimethyl ether, to obtain the aimed compound stably in high selectively for a long period, by using a alkaline earth metal modified zeolite catalyst containing an alkaline earth metal. CONSTITUTION:The titled compound is advantageously obtained by bringing methanol and/or dimethyl ether into contact in a gaseous phase with a catalyst modified by treating hydrothermally a raw material having a composition satisfying molar ratios of SiO2/Al2O3=10-3,000, OH<->/SiO2=0.02-10, H2O /SrO2=1-2,000 and tetrabutyl compound/SiO4=0.01-4 and an atomic ratio of alkaline earth metal/Al=0.03-300 at 80-200 deg.C to give a calcined material having a composition shown by the fomrula (M<1> is alkali metal; M<2> is alkaline earth metal; a is 0-2.0; b is 0.1-100; c is 10-3,000; n is 0-30), treating the calcined material with an alkaline earth metan containing compound in a solid state or in solution so that >=0.25wt% calculated as metal of the alkaline earth metal is blended with or supported on zeolite. |
