PURPOSE:To divide easily a continuously cast plate-like billet by press fitting a wedge for dividing having a width larger than the width of the billet into the central part in the thickness direction of the billet toward the longitudinal direction of the billet. CONSTITUTION:A continuously cast plate-like billet 1 is guided by a table roller 6 to the blade tip position of a wedge 2 for dividing and is forced onto the wedge 2 toward the longitudinal direction of the billet 1 by a press 4 behind the billet 1, by which the billet is divided to two sheets of upper and lower divided billets 3, 3'. The billets are respectively placed on table rollers 7, 7' and are conveyed to the succeeding stage. The temp. of the billet 1 is kept at 500-1,200 deg.C. If the temp. is <=500 deg.C, the forcing of the billet 1 is difficult and if >=1,200 deg.C, the billets 3, 3' are deformed. |
