PURPOSE:To produce a polyamide modified with polyol, having excellent impact strength, in high efficiency, by the anionic polymerization of a mixture of a lactam and a polyol at a specific ratio in the presence of a specific activating agent. CONSTITUTION:The objective modified polymamide is prepared by the anionic polymerization of a mixture composed of 50-95wt% of a lactam (e.g. pyrrolidone, caprolactam, etc.) and 50-5wt% of a polyol (e.g. polyethylene glycol) in the presence of an activating agent of formula (R is bivalent organic group; X and X' are acyl of C=O, C=S, S=O or P=O; Y and Y' are O or S; n and n' are 3-11) obtained e.g. by reacting phosgene or thiophosgene with a compound such as ethylene glycol, and adding a lactam to the reaction product.
