The present invention concerns a method for heat recovery with integrated dust separation or gas cleaning in that gas is alternately taken to two identical units a and b, containing regenerative heat exchange compounds. The method according to the invention is characterised in that the heat exchange compounds of each unit a, b are divided into one or more cartridges 1, 2, 3, placed next to each other in vertical or horizontal direction, the gas cleaning is achieved in that impurities are absorbed on the regenerative compound or in that the impurities cooled by the regenerative compounds are caused to condense out on it, wherein the compound is replaced at intervals, and the regenerative compounds in the cartridges 1, 2, 3 have consecutively diminishing pore volumes v1>v2>v3 and the gas exchange is carried out by a gas exchanger 5 or gas exchangers 4 and 5.
