PURPOSE:To form a garnet oxide single crystal having excellent characteristics by using as a laser medium a composition which satisfies a specific general formula in which the gallium site of gadolinium . gallium . garnet single crystal is substituted with Mg and Zr. CONSTITUTION:The Ga site of gadolinium . gallium . garnet GGG single crystal is substituted with Mg, Zr to obtain a composition which satisfies the general formula of Gd3G2-2yMgyZryGa3O12 (where 0<y<=1). This composition increases in lattice constant as compared with the GGG, and exhibits as a solid laser medium excellent characteristics. For example, it is adapted as a solid state laser medium such as having excellent fault luminescence characteristic, large lattice constant and large oscillating wavelength range. |
