<p>A process for heating of air for industrial purposes employs an electric arc to generate a high temp. O2/N2 plasma into which fuel, in the form of gas, oil or powdered carbon-ferrous solid, is injected at about 10 times the stoichiometric ratio in order to prevent the formation of nitrogen oxides. The remaining requirement of combustion air plus any excess to produce the desired furnace temperature is injected downstream into the plasma/fuel mixture. - Used for direct fired air heating applications, e.g. in industrial drying and heat treatments.
